Lares Trek | Sacred Valley | City Tour Guide is one of the best alternative routes. You will have the morning free for shopping and other personal activities, at 13:00 pm We will pick you up from the hotel to start the city Tour in the city of Cusco, visit the Plaza Mayor, the Temple of the Sun or (Koricancha)  important place of worshiping one of  the most important God the Sun; In this same place, when the Spaniards entered the city they sent to paint all the walls with religious motifs to hide any Inca design  but after one of the huge earthquakes that hit the city.  The walls cracked and came to light those Magnificent Inca representations that have been hidden for so long, you will be able to enjoy the great stories that are counted in this place by our expert tour leader. Then visit the 4 most important archeological sites above the city of Cusco.

Itinerary of Lares Trek | Sacred Valley | City Tour Guide

Day 1: Arrive in Cusco + City Tour

We’ll pick you up from the airport and drop you off at your respective hotel. At approximately 1:00 pm you’ll officially meet your tour guide leader in your hotel lobby. Your tour leader will give you a pre-briefing departure prior to your tour. The trip for today consists of visiting the most important cities within Cusco city. This tour is recommended for everyone, especially if you will go on long hiking trails so your body can accustom to the high altitude. In this half-day trip, you will get an initial introduction about Inca and Colonial architecture and history.

  • The Main Cathedral: an important museum that holds valuable objects and paintings. This cathedral is the same one used during the Spaniard conquest in the late 1500s.

Day 2: Sacred Valley Full Day Guiding

At approximately 8 am we will pick you up from your hotel. You’ll drive past different communities until you reach Awanakancha stop in Taray, located at 23km away from Cusco city. There will be an exposition of llamas, alpacas, and vicu~nas in their natural habitat. Continuing your tour, there will be lookout points that show you amazing sceneries of the sacred valley prior to arriving in the first archaeological site of Pisaq. In Pisaq you will explore for a predetermined time with your tour leader.

Afterward, you’ll go to Pisaq town and see the main plaza where they sell hand made handicrafts such as woven textiles, jewelry, musical instruments, souvenirs and much more. You’ll get back on your ride and go to Urubamba city where you’ll have lunch. Your journey continues to Ollantaytambo, a place where Inca architecture and design is conserved and is declared as the cultural patrimony of Peru.

After exploring this magnificent site you’ll get back on your transportation and head towards the last site of Chincheros. Here you will see how native people to this day continue to dye their textiles like their Inca ancestors. Afterward, you’ll head back to Cusco and be dropped off at your respective hotels.
The day before the trek, your guide will meet you at your hotel for an in-depth briefing. This provides an opportunity to ask questions and do any last-minute shopping before leaving Cusco.

Day 3: Training Day: Cusco – Urubamba – Pumahuanca Valley – P´acchayoq – Cuyoc campsite

We will come and pick you up from your hotel at 5:00 am. Our private bus leaves Cusco at 05:40 am for a scenic drive through the Sacred Valley until we reach the town of Urubamba, which is also part of the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

Here in Urubamba, we will have a shortstop to serve you a hearty breakfast and give you the opportunity to buy any last minute snacks and drinks. As soon as breakfast is over we will head out for a 20-minute drive to the beginning of the Pumahuanca Valley. This is the place where we will meet our horsemen, horses, and chaskis (porters). All of our required equipment will be carried by mules and horses. As soon as we finish packing our equipment we begin our Lares Trek Adventure.

On the way, you will see Inca remains and ancient pre-Colombian paths. You will enjoy the beautiful sceneries, waterfalls and much more. You arrive in your first campsite around 5 pm, followed by dinner. Make sure to get a good night’s rest for the next day is the most challenging day of all.

Day 4: The Most Challenging Day! Cuyoc – Pumahuanca Pass – Lares Hot Springs Campsite

Early wake-up call at 5:00 am. You will have 30 minutes to pack up your personal belongings until breakfast and coffee/tea is served. Afterward, your trip continues with scenic glaciers surrounded by native forests for a long hike towards Pumahuanca Pass. Once we get to the pass we honor the top of this mountain with coca leaves as is the local customs.

Enjoy the amazing views of part of Maras and Moray (salt mines). We then descend a gravel road towards Cuncani Village. Here we will meet local Andean people in their colorful and traditional clothing. From here, we walk about 2 ½ hours towards Lares Hot Springs where you will camp and relax in the natural and medicinal hot springs. This is your most challenging day of all but it will be worth the hike as you relax your muscles in the hot springs and feel refreshed the following day.

Day 5: Adventurous Day! Lares Hot Springs—Totora -Salt Mines – Aguas Calientes

Early in the morning you will have breakfast in the campsite and await the bus that will take you for a 2-hour ride to Quellopuito community. From there you will trek a short pre-Colombian Inca trail to Totora Community while seeing gorgeous views of cascades and tomb remnants, lunch will be served here as well.

From Totora you will get back on the bus and head to the salt mines of Maras, a site that has existed for thousands of years. After the salt mines, you will be taken to Ollantaytambo town and have dinner in a fine restaurant. The train to Aguas Calientes will depart at 7:00 pm. Your tour leader will drop you off at your hotel.

Day 6: Your Final Destination! Aguas Calientes – Machupicchu – Ollantaytambo – Cusco

Early breakfast (5:00 am) before taking the earliest bus to Machupicchu. We recommend everyone to try and be the first ones in line because it fills up incredibly quick. As soon as you arrive at Machupicchu enjoy the sunrise (depending on the weather). Your tour leader will guide you throughout this magnificent site and one of the seven wonders of the world for about 3 hours. Afterward, you will have your own free time to explore this citadel and take numerous photos.

If you book well in advance and have a Huayna Picchu or Monta~na Machupicchu ticket, your tour leader will guide you to the entrance where you can explore these sites on your own. Not everyone explores these sites, if interested be sure to mention this while you book your trip. If you choose to not purchase these extra sites, the Inca bridge or Sun gate are free options located within Machupicchu. Be sure to arrive back to Aguas Calientes on time well before your train departure as the bus lines fill up quickly. Your tour leader will specify the exact times after your guided tour.

Hotel Included in Aguas Calientes

A 3-star hotel is included during your stay at Aguas Calientes based on a double/triple occupancy. If you wish to have a room for yourself a $40 surcharge per person is applied. All rooms include wifi and a private bathroom with hot showers. Please bear in mind that the service you receive in Aguas Calientes will not be quite as good as Cusco.
